The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) Workstation successfully launched in Armenia (27 September 2006)

Programme Activities

In Armenia, The EC-FAO Programme will improve national capacity to generate, manage, analyzeand disseminate food security information. Specific activities include:

	Improving access and quality of information by installing the GIEWS Workstation, CounrySTAT, and AgrometShell. This tools will also help standardize core data sets and databases to make them compatible with national and international information systems.
	Providing technical assistance for the preparation of the Agricultural Census. The last Agricultural census was held over 10 years ago. Since farming systems and agricultural production have changed radically over the last 10 years, old data is no longer reliable.
	Training in the analysis of the Household Budget Survey. A nutrition specialist will also provide assistance in determining the Dietary Energy Supplies of traditional Armenian food.
