Atelier sur les Systèmes d’information et de cartographie sur la sécurité alimentaire et la nutrition et la vulnérabilité
Phnom Penh, Cambodge
5 juillet, 2006

Background

Coordination and networking among stakeholders working in Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) in Cambodia has considerably improved in the last years with the establishment of:
a National Forum on Food Security; and
a government and donor Technical Working Group (TWG) on Food Security and Nutrition, chaired by the Council of Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD), the Ministry of Planning (MoP), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

To support these on-going initiatives, a one day workshop will be held on 5 July 2006 at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh. The workshop will support the Technical Working Group on FSN by improving strategy making and food security interventions.

Organization

The workshop is jointly organized by the Council of Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), with support from FAO.

Aims and Objectives

The workshop seeks to:

better respond to stakeholders' information needs; and

improve coordination among initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and nutrition information management in Cambodia.

These initiatives include:
activities supported under the Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping Systems Initiative (FIVIMS) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries;
WFP's Food Security Atlas project;

CARD's CARD's Food Security and Nutrition System (FSNIS); and

Cam-Info, an indicator database and information presentation tool containing indicators relevant to Food Security and Nutrition and data from the National Institute of Statistics.

Workshop Objectives include:
Presenting and discussing on-going and planned initiatives regarding FSN/vulnerability related information management;
Specifying the need for improved information on FSN and vulnerability; and

Identifying areas for improved coordination and cooperation among various information systems.
