Designing an integrated strategy to improve Georgia's food security through improved utilization of plant genetic resources
Purpose
The overall objective is to develop a national integrated strategy that strengthens Georgia's capacity for effective management and use of plant genetic resources to contribute to food security and national development. This includes:
-
a national study called " Elements of a National Integrated Strategy for Plant Genetic Resources Management and Use in Georgia ";
- generating consensus for a coordinated initiative for institutional capacity building and technology transfer for plant genetic resources: and
- increasing collaboration among national institutions, local governments and regional and sub-regional partners.
Outputs
A national study called "Elements of a National Integrated Strategy for Plant Genetic Resources Management and Use in Georgia " will be developed.
The study aims at providing a strategy for a national policy for the management and use of plant genetic resources for national food security. It will include:
-
policy options for a National Integrated Strategy for Plant Genetic Resources for food security; and
- a
project proposal for an integrated approach to capacity building for utilisation of plant genetic resources in Georgia.
A
workshop will be organized to review the draft study and suggest improvements and recommendations. The project proposal on ‘Strengthening national capacity for PGR Management and Use' will be submitted for donor funding.
