Programme Activities
The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS Workstation)
The GIEWS workstation was officially launched on September 27, 2006 at an official presentation at the National Statistical Service in Yerevan, Armenia. The workstation is a reliable means for managing and exchanging food security and early warning information. It also allows national institutions to maintain ownership of their data, while easily exchanging data with national and international databases.

Food security statistics analysis based on Household Income and Expenditure Surveys
Experts from the National Statistics Service of Armenia, with support from the EC-FAO Food Security Programme and FAO’s Statistics division, received training in analysing food acquisition and consumption data from the 2004 Integrated Living Conditions
Survey (2004 ILCS).
A final report called “
Food data collected using acquisition and consumption approaches with daily diaries in the Armenian 2004 ILCS” was prepared and presented at the Fourth International Conference on Agriculture Statistics (ICAS-4) in Beijing, China.

Determining the Nutritional Content of Traditional Armenian Food
A FAO nutrition specialist worked with the Armenian Nutrition Institute and an Armenian Nutritionist to determine the nutritional content of national foods. Priority recipes were selected and food composition tables are currently being finalised. These tables will make it easier to obtain more accurate food security estimates from household surveys.
