Revisiting the Georgia Food Security Situation Bulletin
In an evaluation workshop, users and producers of the information in the Georgia Food Security Situation – Trends in Figures Bulletin assessed the relevance of the data and analysis. After the workshop, the format of the bulletin was changed. It was also decided to publish, in addition to the annual bulletin, additional bulletins every three months to cover data that must be constantly monitored.
The bulletin provides statistical information on agriculture and food prices and is published by Food Security Observatory of the National Department of Statistics.
The bulletins are available on the National Statistics Bureau’s website:

Training in Food Security Analysis Based on Household Income and Expenditure Surveys
Experts from Georgia’s National Department of Statistics were trained in analysing food consumption and income data from the Integrated Household Survey (IHS) of Georgia. The analysis aims at determining the extent of undernourishment at the national and subnational level in Georgia.
Results from the analysis were discussed in July 2007 at a programme sponsored National Seminar on “Food Security Statistics and Multisectoral Perspectives”.
The final report “Integrating the Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey and Integrated Household Survey data to derive better estimates of food security statistics at sub-national levels” was presented at the Fourth International Conference on Agriculture Statistics (ICAS-4) in Beijing, China.
The paper is available online at:

Support to the Agriculture Survey
Since 2007, programme staff have worked with the National Department of Statistics on the design and development of a quarterly agriculture survey which provides official agricultural statistics based on household surveys. The agriculture survey focuses on specific areas of agriculture for government intervention including land utilization, irrigation and drainage, input use (fertilizer, pesticides, credit, machinery and seeds), production statistics and prices.
