2. The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) Workstation successfully launched in Armenia

The GIEWS Workstation was officially launched on September 27, 2006 at an official presentation at the National Statistical Service in Yerevan, Armenia.

The National Statistical Service Representative highlighted that the GIEWS Workstation responds to one of the country's most pressing needs: a reliable means for managing and exchanging food security information among decentralized centers.

The Workstation allows national institutions to:
- maintain ownership of their data;
- easily exchange data with national and international databases; and
- rapidly access new technology and analytical tools.

4. EC-FAO Food Security Programme and the Integrated Phase Classification System exhibits at the CFS Conference

The EC-FAO Food Security Programme had a stand at the recent Committee on World Food Security Conference held in Rome. Another stand was dedicated to the "Integrated Humanitarian and Food Security Phase Classification System" (IPC) whose further development is being supported by the Programme.

The IPC is a standardized scale that integrates food security, nutrition and livelihood information into a clear statement about the severity of a crisis and implications for humanitarian response.
It aims at providing a common currency for food security and humanitarian analysis.

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) serves as a forum in the United Nations System for the review and follow-up of policies concerning world food security, including food production and physical and economic access to food.
