Dynamic Atlas and GeoNetwork Training and Presentation of the Atlas Dynamique sur la Securité Alimentaire

OVERVIEW

Summary

The workshop was organized by the Direction Générale des Prévisions et des Statistiques Agricoles (DGPSA – Ministry of Agriculture) and the EC/FAO Food Security Information for Action Programme.

The workshop’s main objective was to present the Atlas Dynamique sur la Securité Alimentaire (ADYSA) prototype to food security institutions and get their feedback before finalizing it.

The workshop also aimed at training future users of ADYSA in using the Dynamic Atlas software package and the GeoNetwork platform. These software packages are useful for
- producing, managing and disseminating geographical digital datasets; and
- compiling ISO-compliant metadata.

Main results include:
- participants are now able to use the Dynamic Atlas;
- participants understand the advantages and potential of the ADYSA network for sharing data and metadata among institutions; and
- participants are confident in using the GeoNetwork platform for data management, data sharing and data exchange.

Target Audience

34 participants from national institutions, NGOs and partner organizations involved in food security. They also included focal points for the ADYSA Network from these institutions.

Objectives

- Introduce the prototype of the Dynamic Atlas on Food Security in Burkina Faso
- Provide technical mentoring for using the Dynamic Atlas and GeoNetwork software
- Share knowledge and advice on geo-data management, metadata compilation and metadata notions
