Résumé

The overall purpose of the training was to strengthen the capacity of national institutions to do Crop Yield Forecasting (CYF).

The training also aimed at building skills developed during:
- a six day training course which took place in Vientiane in March 2007; and
- a three month training course in Rome in 2006/07.

The training was very practical and focused on developing the essential skills and know-how needed to produce accurate forecasts. Building sufficient expertise in crop forecasting will also help ensure the sustainability of the activity when external support ends.

Two national experts from Cambodia, who were trained in Rome, conducted the training.

Public cible

The 11 participants included technical staff from various divisions (meteorology, agricultural statistics, extension, research, information center) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and Water Resources and Environment Administration (WREA).

Objectifs

To be able to use the Crop Monitoring Box's tools for producing crop yield forecasts for different provinces in the Lao PDR
