The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) Workstation is a web-based system for managing food security related information. It supports food security analysis for policy formulation and emergency interventions.

The workshop aimed at training staff members form several institutions in using the GIEWS workstation.

Staff from the Sudan Institutional Capacity Programme: Food Security Information for Action (SIFSIA) Programme, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries (MARF), the Food Security Technical Assistance (FSTS) which is part of the Southern Sudan Centre for Census, Statistics and Evaluation (SSCCSE)

The course covered the following topics;

• Introduction to the GIEWS Workstation
• Overview of its various tools
• Re-formatting existing data into GIEWS Workstation format
• Generating automatic reports
• Using the map tools
