Resumen

The report “Legal constraints faced by farmer organizations in Georgia and recommendations” has been prepared under the “EC/FAO Programme on Information Systems to Improve Food Security Decision-Making in the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) East Area ” to support the development of farmer organizations in Georgia.

The preparation of the report was one of the activities of the Programme to provide strategic guidance to the Ministry of Agriculture to foster cooperation and social cohesion among farmers. Other activities include:

 

The report defines and analyses different legal organizational forms available to small scale farmers in Georgia for joint activities in the field of agriculture. The report reviews, for each form of organizations, legal and procedural issues covered by the Law, such as the registration requirements and corporate governance. The report also compares the situation in Georgia with international practice and provides a series of recommendations.

Objetivos

The objectives of the legislation review were to identify legal constraints faced by farmer organizations and provide recommendations to develop new legislation or amend existing one in order to contribute to a favourable policy environment for farmer organizations.
