Two week training on Geographic Information System (GIS) and its application in agro-meteorology

A two week training was organized by Armstatehydromet Service and EC/FAO Programme on linking information and decision-making to improve food security 2010-2012. The training was conducted by a national consultant, Hovik Sayadyan, Lecturer of the Yerevan state University. The consultant trained the participants in GIS and its application in agro-meteorology, which will contribute to improving crop forecasting system in Armenia. Improvement of crop forecasting system is one of the components of the Programme which contributes to the objective of the Programme – to support government’s priorities to reduce food insecurity and poverty by improving the quality and sharing of information across institutions. At the end of the training the participants had acquired sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the following tasks:

Objectifs |
Objective of the training was to get participants acquainted with geographic information systems and their application in agriculture. The training provided both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in data collection, database management and computer mapping in order to work independently with ArcGIS software, GIS project design and management. |
