Workshop Report: Improving Linkages Between Nutrition and Food Security Information and Analysis

9 Dec 2010, Asie du sud-est, Myanmar

The EC-FAO Food Security Programme held a one day workshop on improving linkages between nutrition and analysis. The workshop was the starting point of a nutrition-focused activity, within the broader EC-FAO project linking information to decision-making to improve food security.

The workshop objectives were to: (i) reach a common understanding of the relationship between nutrition and food security and identify gaps in knowledge and programming in Myanmar; (ii)identify potential uses of nutrition and food security information in Myanmar; (iii) present existing nutrition and food security-related information systems in Myanmar and identify gaps; (iv) introduce different tools for assessing food baskets, dietary diversity and household food insecurity, and (v) agree the way forward to developing common methods and indicators for nutrition. Participants recommended the formation of a core group for analysis and interpretation of food security and nutrition information, and the production of a food security and nutrition bulletin in Myanmar.
