Regional awareness raising meeting for francophone Africa on the Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure

3 Dec 2012, Africa - East, Africa - Southern, Africa - West

A regional awareness raising meeting for francophone Africa on the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security, will take place in Yaoundé, Cameroun from 3 to 7 December 2012.

Other regional technical meetings for awareness raising are being prepared, starting with meetings in Africa  in 2012, and elsewhere in early 2013. These meetings will raise awareness of the Guidelines and related materials, and allow participants to discuss how they can use the Guidelines when they return home.

The meetings will help build peer networks of interested people in each region, and to identify existing oportunities in countries that may support improvements to tenure governance at the country level. There are already several regional proposals from the FAO Regional Office to increase participation at the country level in selected regions where resources are available. The meetings will involve all stakeholders, including civil society organizations and the private sector. The latter will be particularly targeted to ensure appropriate participation.

The “Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction” programme is funded by the European Union with additional resources provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The programme is managed by FAO and collaborates with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP)”
