Producing Food Security Information Products that Result in Action

11 Jun 2007 15 Jun 2007
, Tenkodogo
, Africa - West, Burkina Faso

Summary

The training course was jointly organized by the Direction des Prévisions et des Statistiques Agricoles (DGPSA - Ministry of Agriculture) and the EC-FAO Food Security Information for Action Programme.

The training provided food security analysts with the necessary skills and knowledge to produce more relevant, credible and accessible food security information products (FSIPs) that support decision-making.

Twenty eight professionals from the main institutions involved in food security participated in this 5 day training course. Twelve participants were focal points from the decentralized Early Warning System (EWS), recently created to improve food security monitoring.

Selected decision-makers were invited to present their information needs and make recommendations to participants on how FSIPs could better respond to those needs.

Participants prepared a Plan of Action aimed at producing more effective and efficient FSIPs to support the:
- formulation;
- implementation; and
- targeting of food security policies and interventions.

The training was timed to coincide with reporting activities related to the agricultural campaign. Regional EWS focal points were exp ec ted to begin producing a monthly regional report just after the training at the end of June
