Workshop: Proposal to improve crop forecasting in Armenia

13 Oct 2010

Summary

The workshop was organized by the Armstatehydromet and FAO to discuss options for improving crop forecasting and disseminating related information.

The options, proposed by an international consultant, aim at mitigating the negative impact of climate variation and generating some positive impact. It will also assist decision-makers in planning activities to support farmers.

The workshop clearly showed that national institutions are interested in improving crop yield forecasting. The participants agreed with all the proposed activities.  There is now consensus about which activities will be implemented under the Programme.

The Workshop also showed staff from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) how improved crop forecasting could be useful for food security policies and programmes.
