Producing Food Security Information Products that Result in Action

Summary

The training course wasjointly organized by the Direction des Services de Sécurité Alimentaire (DSSA - Ministry of Agriculture in Cape Verde) and the EC-FAO Food Security “Information for Action” Programme.

It provided food security analysts with the necessary skills and knowledge to produce more relevant, credible and accessible food security information products (FSIPs) that support decision-making.

Twenty-two participants from the main institutions concerned with food security in the country, working at central and decentralized levels, successfully completed this 5-day training course. Key decision-makers were invited to present their information needs to participants and provide them with recommendations for improving their products

The course ended with the presentation to the Minister of Agriculture of a Plan of Action prepared by the participants.

The Paln of Action aims at producing more effective and efficient FSIPs to support the:
- formulation;
- implementation; and
- targeting of food security policies and interventions.

Technical analysts, policy formulators, planners and programme managers from national institutions with various fields of expertise including agronomy, statistics, food security, nutrition and economics.
