Armenia Food Security and Agriculture Highlights, January–March 2012 (in Armenian)

  • Food prices increased by 4.4% between December 2011 and March 2012. Potato price increased by 15%, bread and beef prices remained about stable.
  • The production of wheat, potato and fruits is expected to be higher in 2012 than in 2011, due to favorable climatic conditions and adequate methods of production.
  • The economy of the country is slowly recovering from 2009 deep recession, with an expected positive impact on food security and poverty in 2011.
  • Cereal imports during the first three months of 2012 amounted to 101 thousand tonnes, a level similar to 2007–2011 average for the first quarter of the year.

The “Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction” programme is funded by the European Union with additional resources provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The programme is managed by FAO and collaborates with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP)”
