Armenia

The programme in Armenia works with the Government to reduce food insecurity and poverty by improving the quality and exchange of information across institutions. It also promotes the use of evidence-based food security analyses and assessments.
Poverty is a main cause of food insecurity in Armenia. In spite of impressive progress in the last decade, 24 percent of the population was living in poverty in 2008 and the global economic crisis has reversed positive trends.
The programme is implemented together with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the National Statistical Service (NSS) and the Armstatehydromet (Armenia State Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Service).
The Armenia country programme operates as part of the regional EC/FAO Programme on information systems to improve food security decision-making in the European Neighborhood Policy East Area.
