Armenia: Activities

Improving food security data and information

FAO provides expertise to improve the relevance, quality and use of food security-related data and information produced by the National Statistical Service (NSS), in particular Food Balance Sheets (FBS). Main activities include the review of the methods used by NSS to prepare FBS, training of NSS staff in applying the latest international standards, study tour to a neighboring country and training of FBS users in using FBS for designing, implementing, monitoring and assessing policies and programmes.

Improving agro-meteorological forecasts

FAO assists the State Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Service (Hydromet) in improving the methods used to produce forecasts and the dissemination of information to Marz Regional Support Centers. Improving crop forecasting will allow better planning, prevention and mitigation of the negative impact of adverse weather on agriculture and rural livelihoods.

Supporting evidence-based food security analyses

FAO supports the preparation of analyses and assessments that are critical for evidence-based policy making and planning. Assistance was provided to develop the Food Security Concept Paper. The drafting of this paper was coordinated by the Staff of the National Security Council and delegated to the state institutions and a Working Group, chaired by the First Deputy Ministry of Agriculture.

The “Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction” programme is funded by the European Union with additional resources provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The programme is managed by FAO and collaborates with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP)”
