Azerbaijan

The Programme in Azerbaijan contributes to the Government’s efforts to improve the agriculture sector's  performance and competitiveness, in particular to increase productivity and incomes of small and medium farms.

Indeed, poverty is a main cause of food insecurity in Azerbaijan, in spite of a sharp reduction in recent years.  Eleven percent of the population was still living in poverty in 2009.

The Programme is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), in particular the Institute of Economics and Organization of Agriculture (IEOA) and the State Statistical Committee (SSC) and other partners.

The Azerbaijan country programme operates as part of the regional EC/FAO Programme on information systems to improve food security decision-making in the European Neighborhood Policy East Area.
