Overview
The European Union’s Food Security Thematic Programme (FSTP) has six objectives which address food insecurity.
One of these objectives is to “link information and decision making to improve food security response strategies.” It has thus funded this global programme and several regional programmes which aim at strengthening national and regional capacities to:
- produce and analyse food security information
- design more effective response strategies for preventing food crises; and thereby
- reduce chronic food insecurity.
How the global and regional programmes interact
While the regional programmes operate independently, the global programme develops tools, standards and methodologies that can be used by all. The global programme also facilities knowledge exchange across regions and provides technical advice.
