Overview

The EC-FAO Programme’s work on emergencies has focused on building food security in protracted crises situations. Concrete activities include:

  • Contributing to the debate on protracted crises by publishing books, policy briefs, case studies and the State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO’s annual report on hunger statistics.
  • Developing a tool for measuring household resilience to food security emergencies
  • Supporting the technical development and country level application of the IPC, a common scale used by major humanitarian players for determining the severity of food insecurity.

The “Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction” programme is funded by the European Union with additional resources provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The programme is managed by FAO and collaborates with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP)”
